IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE – AWARENESS ON ORAL HEALTH

Maintaining oral health means maintaining overall health. This indicates care for wellbeing and improving quality of life. Oral diseases are the most common non-communicable diseases and affect people throughout their lifetime, causing pain, discomfort, disfigurement and even death. Poor oral hygiene and inadequate exposure to fluoride are the causes of oral diseases.

Oral diseases and other non-communicable diseases can be reduced through public health interventions by addressing risk factors. In this regard, an awareness program and hands-on session on “Golden Tooth” and “Vigor Fair” was conducted at Future Bhubaneswar School by the supporters of Art Of Giving who belongs to the Kimaya Society of KIIT Deemed to be University on 4th August 2018. The program aimed at developing sensitivity towards dental and oral hygiene as well as overall growth. The core objective of the program was to promote healthy behaviors and effective dental practices, and programmes by building knowledge, tools, and networks. The program had a gathering of 150 students who were engaged in a series of tasks and interactive sessions. They were given demonstrations on brushing and proper flossing techniques followed by an interactive session where they demonstrated the very knowledge to their fellow students and won prizes for the same. The students were also enlightened about the Body Mass Index (BMI) and its significance. They were also brought to knowledge about the right ways to measure height and weight and how to manage their BMIs. This raising of awareness has definitely reached the relevant individuals who can, therefore, spread the knowledge to other individuals who then extend it to others and thus the cycle continues.

The Art of Giving community shall always strive to spread knowledge and develop awareness for a healthy and disease-free life.
