KIIT & KISS community Give back to the environment, Post Cyclone Fani:

The Cyclone Fani on May 3 hit Odisha with over 200 km/hr causing large scale devastation. The estimated cost of loss was ₹11,942 crore. The cyclone affected 1.6 crore people in 18,388 villages and 51 towns in 14 districts of Odisha.

The destruction of Fani did not even spare the trees of the coastal districts in Odisha. More than 10 million trees were uprooted with an equal number of trees damaged in the extremely severe cyclone.

As Odisha Govt and several other channels of help were done, KIIT & KISS community in a generous “Art of Giving” gave back the environment what the cyclone had took.

Both the communities and their Founder Prof Achyuta Samanta lead a “plantation” drive where every staff member took the initiative of planting a tree and making sure of its survival.

All the staff of KIIT and KISS were given a sapling which they will plant and nurture, like a parent. 50,000 saplings are ready to give what the cyclone had taken away. This feat explains that “Art of giving” doesn’t just apply for humans and animals but the greater good of the environment.

WHY SHOULD SANTA BELONG TO THE FORTUNE ONLY!! – DISGUISED SANTA VISITS SLUM TO TURN WISHES INTO REALITY

Christmas is here again! And with it comes all the joys of celebration. But what is the true meaning behind celebrating Christmas? Is it the lights all around, the gifts hanging from the tree, wishing cards from loved ones, lavish dinners with family and friends, the smell of plum cakes, exchanging of presents and shouts of “Merry Christmas”? Is this what Christmas really depicts?

While Christmas is a time of merry-making, for many, it is a time of sorrow. Wondering! Yes, because they can’t afford that extra money to buy gifts for their children, family and friends. Lavish dinners may be only a wish and not a reality for many. But this Christmas, the community of Art of Giving makes an effort to make wishes come true. In this pursuit, the volunteers of Art of Giving visits Saliyasai slum to distribute clothes, blankets, and toys to the children. The joy of the children was indescribable and the sight of their faces being lit up was a treat to the eyes.

Why should the one blessed with a fortune only own Santa? The AOG community sends a Santa in disguise to the Saliyasai slum to turn wishes into reality. The disguised Santa teamed up with Kompassions (the garment bank), an AOG Initiative that collects unused/ old and obsolete clothes from the households and make it available for the poor free of cost after reprocessing. The Santa distributed 500 processed clothes which were collected over a week by KIIT Hospitality to the children of Salayasi Slum. KIIT Hospitality Department took up this noble initiative which Raj Shekhar Laha (AOG Convener) helped to effectuate.

Art of Giving community has always worked towards spreading happiness, joy and smiles inspired by the selfless service of Dr Achyuta Samanta and his philosophy of giving. As we celebrate the season and look forward to the New Year, let us resolve to do even more to build a world that is a little more generous, humane and kind.

FESTIVAL OF CARING AND SHARING – DIWALI FOR ART OF GIVING

FESTIVAL OF CARING AND SHARING – DIWALI FOR ART OF GIVING

Diwali is no doubt one of the most loved festivals in India and also celebrated all over the world. It is the festival of lights and symbolises victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. But where does the true spirit of the festival lie? The true spirit of the festival lies in the joy through caring and sharing, and spreading happiness.

This is the festival that brings everyone together and the joy is being with the loved ones.  Whether far or near, knowingly or unknowingly we share and care for our loved ones. But there are people whom we come in contact with or that are a part of our daily lives who almost always get neglected such as maids, drivers, gardeners, rickshaw pullers, street cleaners, beggars, abandons and others. For them Diwali is just like any other day as they have to work to feed their families. But this Diwali, the community of Art of Giving made an effort to ease their loads and light up their faces by delivering happiness in the form of sweets filled with memories to families who can’t afford.

Who said money can’t buy happiness! Money can certainly buy happiness if it is spent on others selflessly.

Thanks to all the volunteers and ambassadors of Art of Giving.

IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE – AWARENESS ON ORAL HEALTH

IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE – AWARENESS ON ORAL HEALTH

Maintaining oral health means maintaining overall health. This indicates care for wellbeing and improving quality of life. Oral diseases are the most common non-communicable diseases and affect people throughout their lifetime, causing pain, discomfort, disfigurement and even death. Poor oral hygiene and inadequate exposure to fluoride are the causes of oral diseases.

Oral diseases and other non-communicable diseases can be reduced through public health interventions by addressing risk factors. In this regard, an awareness program and hands-on session on “Golden Tooth” and “Vigor Fair” was conducted at Future Bhubaneswar School by the supporters of Art Of Giving who belongs to the Kimaya Society of KIIT Deemed to be University on 4th August 2018. The program aimed at developing sensitivity towards dental and oral hygiene as well as overall growth. The core objective of the program was to promote healthy behaviors and effective dental practices, and programmes by building knowledge, tools, and networks. The program had a gathering of 150 students who were engaged in a series of tasks and interactive sessions. They were given demonstrations on brushing and proper flossing techniques followed by an interactive session where they demonstrated the very knowledge to their fellow students and won prizes for the same. The students were also enlightened about the Body Mass Index (BMI) and its significance. They were also brought to knowledge about the right ways to measure height and weight and how to manage their BMIs. This raising of awareness has definitely reached the relevant individuals who can, therefore, spread the knowledge to other individuals who then extend it to others and thus the cycle continues.

The Art of Giving community shall always strive to spread knowledge and develop awareness for a healthy and disease-free life.

#KaashKey – Celeberating UTKAL Diwas

Utkal Mani Gopabandhu Dash is known for his contribution to this Nation and State in need of a revolution. His revolution was propelled by awareness and hence the birth of the newspaper- “The Samaja” took place.
Taking into account of his lifetime credo of “Pen is mightier than Sword”, the AOG community had innovated its way into the minds and soul of deprived children, yet again!

This Utkal Diwas, let’s find what we have fought to come from and what we are fighting to achieve.
The voice of children will become the voice of AOG.

The team aimed to gather children from the underprivileged communities and encourage them to write their dreams down. Writing down what they want to be or simply their wants will help the AOG team to put forth a display of hopes in most appropriate way to the channels where we shall fuel dreams to fulfill them.

This initiative by the AOG community for #UtkalDiwas was #KashKey. Kash symbolizing desire and key stands to unlock their happiness. Volunteers from all across KIIT and KISS and other parts of Bhubaneswar shall gather for the event, get the wishes and try to fulfill it by making it reach the concerned levels.

The children participated with full enthusiasm and took mugshots with their wishes. These wishes might be trivial to many of us, but when fulfilled, are closer to life to many of them. With all humility, Art of Giving Community shall try to fulfil the dreams it has fuelled in their dazzling eyes today.

You may join our mission, see their wishes and become a #Key to their#Kaash and try to suffice just one wish of any child out there. Anything at all helps.

Let Us Be Kind Towards Animals – Food Donation Drive by KIIT-AEWS

Let Us Be Kind Towards Animals – Food Donation Drive by KIIT-AEWS

Human beings have been bestowed with the power to speak and using this power, he can express anger, happiness, satisfaction, dissatisfaction, approval, disapproval and so on. Animals are the unfortunate beings as they aren’t blessed to express their feelings. Being blessed with the ability to speak, we human beings possess the power to command and using this power, we make the animals submissive to us. Times have changed; we human beings have exhibited compassion not only to our fellow mates but also to our animal friends. Compassion and its benefits extend beyond consideration of human life. It’s one of our most striking qualities as human beings and we have countless opportunities to express it to the world around us. Let us use the ‘ability to love’ to love every creation of God, even the animals.  Kindness to animals is as important as kindness to human beings.

Nowadays it’s a trend to have animals as pets. It’s no surprise to find a pet in every home that you visit. Pet animals are lucky as they have a home and are much cared and loved. Stray animals aren’t any less living beings just because they don’t have a home, exactly the same way people living on the streets aren’t any less human just because they are homeless. It is not sufficient to simply do good deeds; one must do them for the right reason and in this effort to spread happiness and compassion towards our animal friends, KAEWS – KIIT Animal & Environmental Welfare Society (KIIT-AEWS) organised a food donation and distribution drive on Raksha Bandhan, the 26th of August 2018. It’s a noble initiative by KIIT Animal and Environmental Welfare Society where students joined the cause by contributing food and feeding it to the stray animals, and rejoiced in the Art of Giving.

Kindness need not be in the form of a big approach; even a small gesture can make a significant difference. In a world where there is already hatred and negativity around, let’s make some effort to do something good and positive.

Pyaar Bhara Pack – International Happiness day

Pyaar Bhara Pack – International Happiness day

20th March 20, 2018: From one episode to another, since May 2013, Art of giving has been constantly spreading happiness amongst the underprivileged. For a country that is about to top the World’s largest Population, it is in desperate need of a start that will survive. Art Of Giving undoubtedly has proved its ability of survival and rise amongst a larger audience to serve this nation, selflessly and wholeheartedly.
Introducing the new #PyaarBharaPack gives the needy ones an experience to “taste happiness”. The initiative involves feeding a wholesome nutritious meal to 200 underprivileged kids served by the restaurant from and around Patia and other parts of Bhubaneswar. Kids from deprived bustees of the town are invited to Sandy’s Tower which happens to be the venue for the initiative. Menu spreading from across biryani to dishes of chicken to chinese and desserts were served to the kids.
To make the process pragmatic the kids were handed over fake currency which they traded over food, giving them the experience of visiting a restaurant, ordering and getting a sumptuous meal. The hustle in the hall, the bliss in the eyes of the kids and hope in their hearts deserves a commitment of encouragement for the underprivileged to have the abilities and sources to rise.
This one-day initiative helps the underprivileged ones have a meal of emotion. Food becomes driving force and Taste- the ambition and fulfillment of paying their own meals inflict empathy. Empathy can drive the indigent to rise and serve. It aims at empowering the poor making them an effective agent of change. The greatest example of this would be Prof. Achyuta Samantha who serves a picture of ambition in everyone’s mind despite being deprived of it since his childhood days. AOG, through small acts of giving, spreads the philosophy of love, care, compassion, wisdom, knowledge, skills, and talent.
Prof Samanta, Founder of Art of Giving Philosophy and the main motivating force behind the event is also the inspiration behind this mission. “One need not be very rich to give something back to the society, rather one must be poor to know the luxury of giving”. said Prof. Samanta.
For the giver, it is a form of self-delight whilst for the inheritor, it is a matter of experience. The idea was to motivate the givers, inheritors and the witnesses that there is a future to be promised because we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

HAPPINESS MULTIPLIES BY SHARING AND CARING – CLOTHES DISTRIBUTION BY KSAC

HAPPINESS MULTIPLIES BY SHARING AND CARING – CLOTHES DISTRIBUTION BY KSAC

The true purpose of Art of Giving is to give from the heart without expecting anything in return. True giving comes from the inside where your deepest happiness resides. People, who are in a habit of giving, give out of the goodness of their heart.  Giving is a blessing for the giver and receiver both. Happiness manifolds when it is shared. To keep the tradition going, on 9th February 2019, Art of Giving by KSAC was conducted at Patharagadia village, Patia, where Students of Khwaab Society and Staffs distributed clothes to the villagers.

Boys and girls from the hostels contributed clothes which were then cleaned and prepared for distribution. Clothes were distributed to as many as hundred villagers comprising of both old and young.

Generosity is a choice that brings contentment and happiness. And it comes from believing you have enough to share. Become a contributor in lifting up spirits. Make someone feel loved, special and appreciated. It can make someone’s day!

HARVESTING PEACE AND BLESSEDNESS

HARVESTING PEACE AND BLESSEDNESS

Art of Giving essentially propounds the idea that in order to have a bountiful harvest of peace and prosperity one has to sow peace and prosperity just in the same way as a farmer does to grow crops. A farmer scatters all his seeds upon the land and then leaves it to the elements. If he did the contrary, that is, hoarded his seed, he would lose both the seed and his produce, for his seed would perish. One may argue seeds do perish when sown. Yes, they do but in such perishing, they bring forth a great abundance.

The Young Achyuta Samanta sowed the seeds of love and care as a child despite having been pushed to the mire of abject poverty due to the untimely demise of his father. Throughout his childhood, starting from the age of 5, he lent his hand to support his grieving mother and helped her raise succor for all the siblings. He offered the comfort of his lap for his younger sister to sleep. He even shared his hard-earned wage with the hungry village urchins. He has sown love all his life and begotten love from one and all.

Achyuta Samanta’s life illustrates that in life, we get by giving; we grow rich by broadcasting our good seeds. The man who says he is in possession of knowledge yet he cannot share because the world is incapable of receiving it or for some other reason, then he either does not possess such knowledge, or, if he does, he will soon be deprived of it, if he is not already deprived. To hoard is to lose; to exclusively retain is to be dispossessed.

Achyuta Samanta was bestowed with good education by God’s Grace and his hard labor. He could have used his education for earning enough and prospering in life like any ordinary person. This would have amounted to hoarding. However, he thought differently. He used his education and the values he learned from the experiences in his life and plunged to share the wisdom of knowledge for helping the growth and prosperity of the society in which he lives.

Even the man who would like to increase his material wealth must be willing to part with (invest) what little capital he has, and then wait for the increase. So long as he retains his hold on his precious money, he will not only remain poor, but also will be growing poorer every day.  He will, after all, lose the things he loves, and will lose it without increase. But if he wisely lets it go; if, like the farmer, he scatters his seeds of gold, then he can faithfully wait for, and reasonably expect the increase. That is what has happened in the life of Achyuta Samanta.

He had a vision to serve the society and work towards relieving people from the pangs of poverty. So he began investing even every penny of his meager earning as soon as he started his professional career. He invested all that he had harvested from his enterprises for the human community to receive larger and larger harvests year after year. His mission in life to bring smiles on peoples’ faces, be them rich or poor and creating an equitable society paves the way for peace and prosperity the entire humanity. His life is true personification of the art of giving.

HARVESTING PEACE AND BLESSEDNESS
